Four Common Workplace Mistakes in the Pandemic

The current Covid-19 pandemic has presented Human Resource professionals with a new layer of compliance rules and regulations to prevent the spread of the virus and to assure that employees and their workplace remain safe. Solution: Ensure that all Covid-19 guidelines and policies are followed so that the employees and the workplace are safe.

2. Mistake: Infrequent Employee Communication

Consequence: Employees may feel apprehensive, unsure of themselves in the environment.

Solution: Share information; keep employees informed of how the organization is performing in the pandemic environment. Assure that employees have the tools to effectively complete their tasks.

3. Mistake: Reduced Employee Engagement

Consequence: Employees may feel disconnected; particularly if they are working remotely.

Solution: Keep those fun activities going. Be creative! Plan Covid-friendly events that are safe (e.g. Zoom parties). Have team members check on each other frequently.

4. Mistake: Not monitoring Employee Time Off

Consequence: Employees continuing to work without a break simply because they believe that they have no place to go.

Solution: Make sure that your employees understand the benefits of having personal time off, if needed. Strongly encourage time off and monitor your employee time-off bank in accordance with your organization’s time off policies.
