Is Your Resume Going To Get Noticed by the Hiring Department?

Finding a job is a tough process as it’s much more than just clicking “apply” on every job posting. And while job boards do make it easy to apply to a mass amount of jobs in a rapid-fire succession, how do you know if your resume is getting noticed?

The Job Market is Tough During These Times

With the global pandemic still going on, jobs can be tough to find as employers are being more selective and the competition is fierce. As such, it’s a great time to refresh your resume and make sure that it’s in tip-top shape. You can use resume templates, which can be found on Google and other job board related websites, as great resources guide to getting your resume looking professional and clean.

Have Your Resume Reviewed by a Professional

Sending out resumes is admittedly a crapshoot as to which employers will actually take notice, so it’s important to put your best foot forward. While there are many resume templates online that can help you with formatting, having an actual professional resume writer go over it could take it a step further. Professional resume writing can be costly, however, the professionals know the right key words to use and how optimize your resume so that it’s more likely to come up on any potential employers’ radar.

Here are Some Resume Writing Tips From Our Hiring Department

Employers can easily pass up on your resume if anything is out of place or unnecessary, so it’s important to pay attention to small details. Here are some tips from our hr department as to what employers will potentially look for:

  • Consistency and Format: Font size, font color, and headings are important. Remember to keep them consistent. Unless you are applying for a fashion, graphic, or design-related position, it is not necessary to use flashy colors or graphics
  • Be sure to apply for positions that truly are aligned with your career interest and expertise
  • Include a summary at the top that states what type of position you are seeking. Also remember to tailor the summary to each job Don’t use code or acronyms: Use words like “medical coding, “proficient in java coding,” etc.
  • Do not put your address on your resume. Only include your name, e-mail address, phone number, and LinkedIn profile URL
  • Note the city and state of past employers, as well as “from and to” dates worked
  • Showcase your expertise
  • Remember that the hiring department typically does not read the whole resume. They usually just scan it for the important information.
  • It helps to have different types of resumes (chronologically ordered, skill-based, etc.)
  • Follow Directions! If the job posting specifically states to send your resume as a Word document, do so. If you send it as a PDF, for example, they may pass on you automatically.
